Super Nova

This Boy Can Sing This link was sent by Dannette, take a look at it. Pretty awesome. Thanks Danette. Still A Good Show Last night I watched Nova, about 13 people that trained 40 weeks to do the Boston Marathon. Most of the women in this group were substantially overweight in the beginning, some of the men too. Of the 13, 12 actually made it to the start line, one had to get out due to injury. They were all medically monitored very thouroughly. There was a lot of information coming out of the show that would help all of us to be encouraged to live a life style that included plenty of exercise. The women for the most part did not lose the weight, but got remarkably healthier. Diet is very important for maintaining weight even for those who exercise a lot. The damage that running does is why I am not a runner any longer. I spent years tearing down my knees, achillies tendons, back and the rest. Riding a bike is more fun, easier on the body, and makes you just as healthy as running does. B

Feeling a bit artzy, I decided to take a picture of all the pigeons when they first fly off in a group. You know, like when they are foraging and someone walks by and they flutter instantly up and about, like the survival instinct they've learned when they think they are in danger of a predator pouncing on them? There I was, set up, ready for a few more birds to gather, waiting for someone to walk by so as to cause a stir. With camera in hand, Roosevelt Leaks walks by and causes the best flutter one could hope for, I shoot, press the button at what I think is the perfect timing. When the picture showed up on the LCD screen, there was not a bird in sight. Only the bike. The camera has such a slow reaction to the the shutter button. Make that our camera, make that Marcy's camera. I bought it for her as a gift, but look whose using it. That's kind of like the husband who says, look dear you really need this new fishing rod. But back to the camera, I'm learning that bargain

Pebbles Hills Road Warrior While heading to my parents house after church we saw this inspiring traveler clipping along pretty quickly until he had to stop at the traffic signal like the rest of us. Notice that he uses his hands to pedal the bike which tells me that he has no use of his legs, which tells me that he is going to still get around the best that he can, which tells me that the next time I see him I hope I am on my bike so I can ride up next to him and say, "hey, you are totally awesome". Parents Lookin Soo Good My mom and dad recently went on a cruise. This picture was taken on the boat, but I wonder just where on the earth they were at that time. They were celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. How cool is that? This grand couple raised 8 children who are now scattered out all over the world. Way to go mom and dad, your love has spread far and wide. Trick Or Threat, the candy is neat Here is My Marcy, the one on the right, showing her friend. Jack is going t

Today is the the plane part of my commuting. I get on the Southwest at 5:50 today and get home at 6:15, or there abouts. That would be starting at: 30°08'52.9" latitude by: 97°47'32.32" longitude and ending at: 31°46'23.57" by: 106°17'35.76" Lat, lon, give or take a couple of seconds. All I have to do now is stay busy for the rest of the day so the time will get here quicker. Looks Kinda Comfortable Looking down on this pretty white saddle looks like it would be good for a cruise to the ACL Festival, or or to the Shady Hollow, but I wouldn't want to ride far on it. It makes the bike look tricked out though. Picture Collection Time I need to go to Mom and Dad's house to get the pictures of their cruise because I want one or two on the right side of this site. Cousin Bob is going town, maybe I can get a picture of him too. He is actually going to be performing in Oddessa. I don't know exactly what his performance is about but he goes by

Austin is cool when it comes to events on Town Lake. Here are hundreds of bikes parked at the last Austin City Limits Music Fest this year. There was not enough room to park all the bikes, these are just those that got there early enough to park close to the action. The season is at its best for getting outside and doing things, like riding a bike, walking, and golfing. I am sitting in the very large box. It holds a lot of things and people. It is one city block wide and long and stands 11 stories high. This box is a comfortable place to have to come to each day considering I have to be someplace each day. But today I would like to be about on my bike riding free. When the first cold blast comes from the north and makes the outdoors cold, I will have the big warm box to come sit in during the day and will be glad I sit in a big huge box each day. Cool Ride The guy who climbed off this bike and hurriedly got off, locked it and ran like he was late to class must have borrowed his girlfriend's ride. Whatever it takes I always say. (Click on pic to enlarge) Green Power She said we should go green. I've been thinking about that. Why haven't I done it already? In your Wal*Mart, or Target, or Walgreen's, or anyplace that sells things, hav

Look What The Wind Blew In

This page is changing and hopefully for the better. Bear with me as I try to restore it to the way I really like it. Comments are welcome, suggestions are encouraged. Thanks AG for sending your comments. I do get the play on words, Your Space, My Space, what a funny play on words. Note She wakes from a slumber, to say sleep well. And then I did.

Fall into the coolness

Image
The ride in was nice this morning with temps being around 55. I am accustomed to arriving at the office drenched with sweat and having to cool down and dry off before changing. Being cooled off already is a welcome change of events. Picture taken from Martino's Bike Diary I know that a vast majority of the folks in this world of ours are harnessed to the automobile. That's just the way it is. I am not talking to you, who are bound by the system. In fairness, the evolution of how the human race moves around from one place to another is a fantastic story from the days we drug fresh meat home by hand and picked berries in the field then get plenty of them to the cave in time for supper. Or how about when a natural storm comes or a fire rages the land, cars and trucks are much better to move than being on foot. Anyway, there are plenty of us out there who are not absolutely dependant on the auto to get around to do normal mundane tasks during the day. You are the one I am talking t

There are somewhere around a half a million people in California who have been evacuated from their homes. Fires are burning the whole place up. That means animals are probably moving around also, pets under care, wild species on their own, and people can't go back home to get that precious item they forgot. The helicopters are flying big buckets of water in the high winds. I pray that the inferno spares all living creatures. This morning the Texas Hill Country is under a red flag warning for high winds and potential fire hazard. I don't know if this area is as much like a tender box as that in California. Unscrambled cube Brand new, never been turned. When I read various web sites about the Rubik's Cube, the words algorithms and permutations are used a lot. Hmmmm, makes me think that one has to be pretty smart to solve this puzzle if you have to know what those big words mean. I think I am out to prove them wrong, just give me a few days. Bumpy Skies Across Texas

Saturday at the Volleyball game The flight back to Austin was pretty bumpy. When the flight attendants were attempting to serve drinks to all us passengers I wondered if the pilot had a view of what was going on, because the attendants got a break from their duties when the intercom came on and ordered all attendants to take their seats. From that point ensued a the type of rough ride that makes you wonder how those wings can stay attached to the fuselage. When walking to the long term parking, the weather was nice, warm, calm. But that changed during the night. When I looked out the window upon waking, I could see the trees blowing and water drops on th leaves of my huge rubber plant. I thought that riding a bike today would be uncomofortable but that wasn't good enough excuse to drive. I told myself that after taking a shower I would just find my warmer, water resistant clothes. When the lady on the radio said that there was an 80% chance of rain and there was a wind advisory, I

A New Day

Saturday morning in El Paso is a mighty fine place to be. We have a volleyball game, a baby shower to got to, pick up Scot's new bicycle, got to JoBob's for a little sorie with childhood friends. Since I road my bike 100 miles this past week commuting to work and back, running errands and such, the two days off doing family stuff will aid in my leg recovery. Readers, please send pictures. Good day

London Transit Ad

This would be a good ad for Austin and El Paso too.

Cool Ride

Here in Austin, the weather may be finally cooling off. 64 degrees doesn't sound like that should be considered cool to me, but my skin says it is, especially when I go through low water crossings. Don't get me wrong though, I am enjoying the break from the furnace blasting heat, and one of the reasons I decided to stay in this part of the world is because of the mild winters. When I get live with my wife and children in El Paso, I wonder what the cool temps at a much higher elevation will feel like. Actually, it's hard waiting to find out. I'm ready now, but still getting all the ducks lined up. I have children, grandchildren, and a great grandchild here too, but we all know it is time for me to make the move. I love all my family. Living in and around the Austin area for some 27 years has been a cool ride of sorts. The water, the trees, the music scene, the combined political and university culture, and good ole boy Texas mannerisms. Now looking back, the weather didn

Uncle Billy's BBQ hosted this gathering, the Geasers Cycle Club first meeting of the minds. The bbq was good and it was a save place to talk a good story, with no bikes around to have to prove oneself.

Corbin Rocks

Image
My daughter Jeanette came to visit with me (finally)) the Tuesday night. I cooked supper and rolled on the floor with Corbin, 2 months old now, while Jeanette got caught up on one of her favorite tv shows. Of course there were some time outs for things like mommy cuddling and, uh, diaper changing. I figured I didn't have to do that because I changed Corbin's mom's diapers enough times not to forget how.

First Things First

First thing I had to do this morning was go back to yesterday's post and edit it. I can't believe that I misspelled my wife's first name. I got a nice congratulatory email from Terry Brisbin the other day and gently corrected him on the way he spelled Marcy's name, lo and behold I did the same thing. Ooops. Done. Marcy has also given me encouragement to write more often like I used to. Thank You Love. Riding was good this morning, the temperature was about 60 degrees. I think that's the first time it has been that low. I am going ride back to the apartment at lunchtime, drive the car back because I have the teaching job tonight. If this all works out well, I may do the same thing tomorrow. Tomorrow after work I drive to the airport so I can do my plane commute. Friday nights are always worth living for I have been thinking about Tom and Sherry, two university students who worked hard in their studies and parties hard when they had the chance. On a particular Friday

A Lot Has Happened

Good news: A lot has happened since abandoning this blog site back in the summer bad news: There is no bad news Take a look at the FBI Agent on the right hand sidebar. It is hard to tell that she isn't wearing a wedding ring. Well that's all changed Marcy and I are now married as of September 1, 2007. when you look at the picture of the boy below eating my fishing worm, be pleased to know that we are now officially family. And the teenage girl who is the fastest text messager I've seen yet, is now officially family too. Pictures are on the way and should be here any day now

Dad, Thanks For the Encouragement

I am so lucky to have the parents assigned to me. With all their unwavering devotion to doing the best they could to raise me and my siblings the right way, keep us in food, clothes, good health, and spiritually founded, I managed to cause problems along the way. Just think if I had of been given not so dedicated parents. Boy, I am a lucky guy. Dick and Norma just finished a cruise on a big ship that went through the Panama Canal amongst other places as they celebrated their 60th anniversary. Wow. Eye of GOD My sister Martha sent this picture. I was on a distribution list, you know, one of those "don't break the chain" emails. You are supposed to spend 60 seconds just doing nothing but looking at the picture. If you click on the picture to get the large view it will be easier to look at. Something happened when I looked at it but don't want to tell you what it is because a different thing may happen when you stare at it.
